030. ECNL BOYS PLAYOFFS: DID THE STRONGEST TEAMS WIN THEIR GROUP STAGES? (PART 2)
There's a relationship between age and severity of under-performance during Group Stage play.
In last week's episode, we demonstrated that Group Stage winners produced results that were similar to their strong regular season performances. However:
- Group Stage participants - that did not win their groups - delivered significantly-weaker results vs. their own regular season:
- They scored ≈1 less goal per-game
- They conceded 1+ more goal per-game
Here's a summary, related to Group Stage participants that did not lead/win their groups:
This week, we dive-deeper into the above data, and visualize "how" this data manifests itself inside age groups - as follows:
Here are takeaways:
- Younger age group teams were likely to produce more severe levels of GD-G under-performance, compared to their own regular season results.
- It's difficult to isolate a trend across either offensive (GF-G) or defensive (GA-G) age-related results... but the GD-G net effect is relevant .
